Communities in Muskoka are too far appart to care what the others are doing. Most of the people who live here are rich cottagers that come to get away from it all so they don't really care what goes on for the little time they spend here.
The locals that live year round don't have much money don;t pay much taxes and are content to live the easy country life and don't care what goes on in politics either.
This is the reason the same people are elected over and over for their whole lives and nothing ever changes.
I am sure there are lots of problems here but they don't want to hear about it.

It does not sound like much of a community. It sounds more like the full time residents have given up hope. The cottagers sure don't give a crap about municipal affairs when they only come to play and don't actually live there.

I beg to differ. Not everyone in Muskoka has a strong opinion, however I am sure that would be true of any community large or small. You have those who care and who make huge efforts in and around the community and you have those who don't. I'm not sure why you would try to show such an ignorant lop sided view of Muskoka, but I must tell people that it is simply a biased review. I assume your politics comment MUST be regarding the local politics exclusively (and even then I'm not sure I'd agree). Finally, people don't just sit around living the 'easy' life. In fact in many cases far from it. Not every local has a little cottage and lounges by the lake all day. We all have jobs to do, just like everyone else in Canada. Muskoka is a great and beautiful place including the people. ps. If nothing ever changes, I'd suggest you do more than b**** on a forum page; personally I'd be a lot happier trying to find solutions to this 'problem' instead.

No offense to the fine people living in the very beautiful District of Muskoka. I think the issue is more specific to the political realm. The population lets their politicians get away with doing too little in looking after the public's interest. Are you much aware of what's been going on for the last thirty years and the reputation Muskoka government services have? This is not a bitching board, but a genuine attempt to create possitive changes. The local media in bought and paid for and the people need to pay attention and inform themselves and each other. No one is looking after them and we are all alone, politically speaking.

Hey Nidder, you don't speak for all. The Muskoka taxpayer's get screwed with debt on top of debt and our taxes barely cover the interest. Any thing that gets done get done from Provincial Grants and by creating more debt.
Council begs for money from the Province and Federal Governments and when they get any they let the staff blow as much as they can get their greedy hands on including doubling it up with more public debt.
Who is going to pay all this? Our kids?
